IFTAR DINNER—On June 24, Allwood Community Church, 100 Chelsea Rd., hosted an Iftar dinner—the evening meal that breaks daily fasting during the Muslim season of Ramadan. The event was sponsored by Peace Islands Institute, Hasbrouck Heights, and the Turkish Cultural Center of Clifton. Over 40 people of different faiths enjoyed the food and fellowship. Ercan Tozan , the executive director of Peace Islands Institute said:”Ramazan is about sharing and giving” in his short speech. Rev. Nancy Hoerner, the pastor of Allwood Community Church, who, by coincidence, marked the three-year anniversary of her ordination that night.
Ramadan is celebrated in the ninth lunar month of the calendar used my Muslims, a period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and charitable outreach to those in need. Tozan said his organization invites non-Muslims to Iftar gatherings as a way to build bridges and cultivate friendships in a multicultural society.
