United Nations – Moroccan Ambassador Omar Hilale presented, on Thursday at the UN headquarters in New York, the Moroccan vision on the relationship between peace, security and development in the African context.
Hilale, who took the floor during a panel organized by Peace Islands Institute under the title “African Solutions to African Problems”, presented the Moroccan approach based on the belief that “without peace, we cannot achieve development, and without development, we cannot promote sustainable peace”.
Hilale stressed in front of an audience of diplomats, UN officials, journalists and representatives of civil society that Morocco is convinced that democracy, human rights, rule of law and sustainable development are closely related and reinforce each other.
“The stability of societies and the respect of human rights are inseparable. Because, without peace, we cannot achieve development, and without development, we cannot promote sustainable peace,” Hilale stressed.
He added that inclusive political and economic institutions promote good governance which strengths States, while economy and entrepreneurship cannot prosper and develop unless there is a stable environment where law and good governance are respected.
