Philadelphia (Nov. 24, 2015) – Peace Islands Institute and various community congregations including the Holy Trinity Episcopal church, Congregation Leyv Ha-Ir, First Baptist Church of Philadelphia, First Presbyterian Church, First Unitarian Universalist Church, Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion, Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel, and Welcome Church participated in an Interfaith Thanksgiving community gathering sponsored by Center City Residents’ Association, held at Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel in Center City.
After the welcome speech given by Stephen Huntington, executive director of Center City Residents’ Association, Rabbi Ira stone addressed the opening blessing. Rabbi Ira stated
“Joining together from our diverse traditions, from the different faiths that sustain us, we come to express our gratitude and to pray that our actions within and beyond our community may echo the goodness for which we give thanks. O Source of light and truth, we pray that this hour of worship may be one of vision and inspiration. Help us to find knowledge by which to live. Lead us to take these words of thanksgiving we shall speak into our hearts and our lives.”
The program continued with a call to prayer, prayer service, hymn singing, poetry reading and music. Clergies and congregations prayed together and shared their gratitude in Thanksgiving.
At the end of the program, conversations continued in a reception with a refreshments.
