PIINY and Helping Hands Volunteers Helped Residents In Lower East Side Manhattan

Lower East Side is one of our neighborhoods that was most affected by the Hurricane Sandy on Monday October 29, 2012. 

Especially the elderly and handicapped suffered miserably by the loss of power, telephone and other essential services. The Peace Islands institute, together with GOLES (Good Old Lower East Side) Committee was among the first to reach out to the residence providing food, clothing, water and other indispensable items.  People need to maintain their dignity and self respect especially in times of such dire need.  We thank all of our volunteers and members for being the generous New Yorkers that we are and we are especially proud of them for providing such aid during another storm, the Nor’easter.
